| micing and tuning bass drum |

I am having trouble tuning my bass drum so that it can have a punch sound to it. How should I tune it. Loose on the beater side and tight in the front? Also when tuning the bass drum I can't seem to get the punch sound. I have the bass drum connected to an equalizer. How do I set it in the mixer?
