: I HAVE A 22X16 LUDWIG BASS WITH BATTER HEAD AND FRONT WITH ABOUT 13 INCH CUT OUT I TOOK THE FELT STRIP OUT AND TRYING DIFFRENT SIZE PILLOWS IN DRUM WHATS THE BEST WAY TO GET A NICE LOW DEEP THUD SOUND WITH OUT LOSEING THE TONE IT SEEMS LIKE ITS TO DEAD OR TO BOOMY I WOULD LIKE TO GET THAT NICE LOW THUD WITH OUT LOSEING IT. THANK YOU

Take the pillows out of your drum and put them back in the closet. Buy yourself an Aquarian Impact III bass drum head (beater side) and a heavy head of you choice for the front. Make a 3" at approximately 8 o clock off dead center. Tighten the front head to thumb tightness and the beater head the same. If the tone is too much, place small rings of tape inside the front head 2" from the bearing edge. This is a good place to start, you can adjust the heads to get the tone and pitch you want but this will give you the low end you are looking for.
